The Heroes of Humanity celebration is part of the foundation’s initiative to create a “Violence Free, Stress Free America” (www.uplifthumanvalues.org). At the Heroes of Humanity event, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Human Values awards will be presented to two individuals who exemplify a dedication to uplifting human values in our community. Hosted by Atlanta Unity Church, the Art of Living Foundation and the International Association for Human Values, the event will feature performances by Atlanta’s International Harmony Youth Choir and Atlanta Unity Choir. The event will seat 400 people in theatre style seating. Founded by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar in 1981, the Art of Living Foundation has grown to become one of the world’s largest U.N. NGOs with centers in 140 countries. Art of Living Foundation and its volunteers are working tirelessly in some of the most difficult areas of the world, such as Iraq, Kashmir and Sri Lanka, to find workable, peaceful, and sustainable solutions to the cycle of violence and conflict. Through its stress management, trauma relief and self-development programs, the foundation has had remarkable success in turning individuals away from violence and aggression. In the United States, Art of Living Foundation and its sister organization, the International Association for Human Values (IAHV) are actively involved in offering highly effective stress management programs for returning war vets with PTSD, public and private schools throughout the United States and corporations including NASA and the World Bank. In Atlanta, Art of Living courses are offered at Emory University, Georgia Tech, University of Georgia and at the Art of Living Center in Atlanta. Since February of this year, AoL and IAHV volunteers have been providing trauma relief programs for Bhutanese refugees through IAHV’s Self Empowerment and Integration Project.
